BlueArc Delivers First Customer Shipments of the Si7500 Storage System to Juniper Networks®, Extreme Networks® and Altera Corporation

Technology Leaders Choose BlueArc for Superior Performance, Reliability and Scalability Backed by World-Class Service and Support

SAN JOSE, Calif., July 18, 2001

BlueArc Corporation, developer of the world's highest performance enterprise-class network storage systems, today announced June sales of the Si7500 Storage Systems to Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR), Extreme Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: EXTR) and Altera Corporation (Nasdaq: ALTR), meeting BlueArc's commitment to ship product in the second quarter of 2001. The Si7500 Storage System ha s been tested and proven to run at gigabit rates, far beyond the throughput available from any competitive system. In addition, the Si7500 Storage System delivers 99.999 percent solid-state reliability with significantly lower total cost-of-ownership. Juniper Networks, Extreme and Altera all took part in BlueArc's beta testing program and upon confirming the Si7500's features and benefits, deployed the Si7500 Storage System.

These first Si7500 Storage Systems have been deployed to take advantage of their superior performance and reliability; Juniper Networks delivering file-serving for their engineering development team, Extreme to maximize network performance in their executive briefing center and Altera to consolidate the work of three storage servers with one Si7500.

"BlueArc's Si7500 Storage System delivers the high-performance file-serving required to meet the needs of our engineering development team," said Kim Perdikou, chief information officer, Juniper Networks. "BlueArc's enterprise-class service and support exceeded our expectations and delivered the quality of service we demanded for this level of product."

"Our executive briefing center is designed to demonstrate the incredible performance of Extreme switched optical networks," said Harry Silverglide, vice president of sales, Extreme Networks. "BlueArc's Si7500 network attached storage system allows us to demonstrate to our customers the true performance of our networks and deliver an end-to-end high-speed enterprise solution."

The Si7500 Storage System, powered by BlueArc's revolutionary SiliconServer™ architecture, is the only enterprise-class network attached storage (NAS) system to meet the needs of the optical age of gigabit networking. The adoption of this product by Extreme Networks and Juniper Networks, the leaders in IP infrastructure is testimony to the revolutionary aspects of this system.

"In their Si7500 Storage System, BlueArc has leveraged the power of Altera programmable logic to achieve an impressive combination of industry-leading speed and reliability," noted Frank Hannig, chief information officer at Altera Corporation. "As a result, we entrusted the Si7500 Storage System with a majority of the backup storage for our corporate headquarters, and have since observed at least a threefold performance increase compared to our prior setup. In addition to breakthrough technology, BlueArc has demonstrated their ability to address the issues of a production data center environment and has provided outstanding customer support which is a vital component of an overall storage solution."

"The purchase and deployment of our revolutionary Silicon Server technology by these industry leading companies is a significant endorsement for BlueArc," said Enrico Pesatori, chief executive officer, BlueArc Corporation. "From the start, BlueArc has been committed to not only bringing to market a powerful new storage system technology but also building a customer-centric company, focused on providing world-class service, support and reliability. The orders from Juniper Networks, Extreme and Altera confirm and provide recognition that BlueArc is doing just that."
