Incorporating data management policy templates, Data Migrator lets administrators define rules, parameters and triggers to ensure company data is moved automatically to the right storage tier, at the right time, to satisfy the needs of IT, application business owners and a company's end users.
Data migration occurs transparently when a rule is invoked. After files are moved to a different tier, Data Migrator offers a 'pointer' to the original file location that allows the file to be accessed transparently, by both applications and end users, as if the file had not been moved at all.
With Data Migrator, files not used for over a week can now be moved automatically from higher-performing Fibre Channel disk to lower cost, 'Tier 2' storage, such as SATA disk drives. Likewise, IT groups can also quickly migrate certain file types to lower tiers of storage when file types do not require the highest levels of performance. Data Migrator makes it easy by letting administrators quickly create migration rules based on a file's last access time, file type, and any number of other criteria.
Data Migrator can even be used to automatically move data from different departments to Tier 2 once the department passes a certain capacity threshold. Data Migrator's versatile, rules-based policy engine also lets administrators apply departmental policies that trigger data movement based on preset storage capacity thresholds.
Consisting of practical, data management policy templates, an easy policy scheduler and integrated data protection safeguards that prevent conflicting policies, Data Migrator offers administrators simple, "set-it-and-forget-about-it" data migration functionality.
