The BlueArc Titan 1100 model is a mid-range storage product providing end-to-end enterprise scalability. Titan 1100 offers new value and performance to smaller and mid-size businesses, including extended value with both remote and branch office capabilities. The Titan 1100 enables a cohesive, end-to-end enterprise storage infrastructure strategy when combined with the rest of the Titan family of products. Titan 1100 provides a lower market acquisition point that leverages the same extensible architecture of the Titan series, allowing seamless growth over time.
Titan 1100 addresses three significant customer needs:
Addressing specific market needs for capacity, performance, and high availability clustering, Titan 1100 provides exceptional value to small and mid-sized businesses that need a high-performing storage solution that can flexibly and cost-effectively scale over time. The Titan 1100 offers an extensive array of core enterprise software features, data management, and virtualization capabilities that provides a foundation for superior performance and scalability to support the demands of a growing business.
The Titan 1100 enables 60,000 user sessions and thousands of compute nodes to be served concurrently, while maintaining data access at dramatically higher rates than those found in traditional storage systems. Users working on even the largest data sets can realize dramatic improvements in information storage and retrieval, increasing productivity and delivering a solid return on investment.
Titan 1100 inherently supports the ability to build tiered storage infrastructures with a mix of Fibre Channel, SATA, and WORM protected storage on a single system. This flexibility allows administrators to easily utilize the latest disk technology. Storing data on the most appropriate media dramatically reduces cost while maintaining access times consistent with application requirements.
With Titan's dedicated non-intrusive backup and replication technology, users experience uninterrupted high-speed access to their data.
Titan is designed to meet the most demanding requirements, supporting up to 2.5 Gigabits per second (Gbps) of non-blocking data throughput with a high performance configuration. As data and user populations grow, or as workstation and application server performance accelerates, Titan can easily scale to meet these increased demands.
Customers can add storage at any time to meet new application or business needs or to consolidate disparate storage into a single point of management without incurring downtime. Titan 1100's object-based File System scales to 128 terabytes (TB) under a single namespace and supports Virtual Volumes - logical containers that manage data capacity and can dynamically expand and contract to meet changing allocation requirements.
Titan solutions can be designed to support core automated enterprise functions, with no single point of failure. All aspects of the system's modular architecture deliver maximum availability, even during upgrades or maintenance. Additionally, BlueArc provides a choice of asynchronous or synchronous replication and mirroring options at both the file and block level. Titan offers a range of options to meet the most demanding business needs, providing instant data availability even during times of crisis. Should performance requirements grow beyond a single system, Titan's native clustering capability supports two Titans connected into a single file system. The data managed by each Titan is available to each clustered system, allowing for seamless fail-over and continued data access regardless of an enterprise's maintenance or disaster recovery requirements.
BlueArc's Intelligent Tiered Storage allows an enterprise to match appropriate storage media to differing application requirements, achieving optimal levels of performance, capacity and cost without being required to manage and maintain multiple storage systems. Combined with the accelerated productivity achieved from the underlying architecture, Titan delivers a fast return on investment.
In today's environments, as new server and networking technology is deployed within the enterprise, storage systems must be upgraded to meet the needs of the IT infrastructure. The vast majority of storage system upgrades require an entirely new product installation - a ÔforkliftÕ upgrade. Titan eliminates these painful hardware replacement costs by delivering a modular solution with maximum flexibility that supports upgrades via firmware feature enhancements or server modules without replacing the entire system.
BlueArc Titan employs four (4) physical modules, including the Network Interface Module (NIM), two (2) Files Systems Modules (FSA, FSX & FSB), and the Storage Interface Module (SIM).

Titan's NIM module provides the networking and management interfaces and carries out TCP, UDP and IP processing in the hardware. The 1100 offers four (4) Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) fiber or copper SFP interfaces, supports IEEE802.3ad link aggregation, and transmit/receive both standard and jumbo Ethernet frames. The NIM Modules also support dedicated Ethernet and RS-232 interfaces for management.

Titan's File System modules combine to carry out protocol processing (including CIFS, NFS, iSCSI and NDMP) and all aspects of file system operation in the hardware. The hardware execution of file system operations is key to delivering the throughput and low latency offered by Titan. Directory searches and file lookups are far more efficient and less time consuming, allowing data to be returned to the client quicker, enabling higher productivity levels. The File System modules also implement battery-backed NVRAM, ensuring that no data will be lost in the event of unplanned downtime. In addition, the File System is protected by mirrored NVRAM in a clustered configuration. The optional FSX protocol acceleration module can be used in place of the standard FSA module to provide maximum performance for installations with large numbers of Windows clients or Windows applications servers.

Titan's SIM module controls BlueArc's Parallel RAID Striping technology and is responsible for disk, storage management, and provides the high-speed 10 gigabit (Gb) cluster interconnect. The hardware execution of Parallel RAID Striping across LUNs allows performance to increase even as more storage is added to the system. A massive data cache provides rapid access to commonly used data.
