BlueArc SiliconServers introduce a new concept to the management of directories on the system called Virtual Volumes. Virtual Volumes are a system administration tool allowing the system administrator to logically group directories within a volume, and apply properties and services to the Virtual Volumes group.
Virtual Volumes are logical entities that reside on top of the base volume of Titan. Virtual Volumes can be dynamically expanded and contracted at will, exported or shared. Virtual Volumes have properties similar to normal volumes and in excess of 2,000 Virtual Volumes per volume can be created. The use of Virtual Volumes allows the system administrator to create and manage groups/users/databases/projects independently, all residing on the large and scalable base volume - a single volume for the system administrator to manage.
